Angel Reese benched, moms feuding as LSU women’s basketball team in turmoil after title

Crowned heads are heavy. The LSU women's basketball national title defense has started poorly, with star Angel Reese benched Tuesday and players' mothers reportedly arguing on Instagram.

LSU benched Reese in the second half of its 109-79 win over Kent State on Tuesday. LSU won the game easily, but they lead by two at halftime. LSU coach Kim Mulkey called the benching a “coach’s decision” (or didn’t).

After 20 years covering LSU athletics for OutKick, Glenn Guilbeau wrote that Reese was benched for a “attitude adjustment.”

Reese had a busy offseason, with a Sports Illustrated swimsuit spread and a Cardi B and Latto music video. On Instagram, Reese's mother, Angel Reese Webb, and Flau'jae Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, appeared to fight.

“Folks pls do not send me long text msgs with a bunch of grammatical errors it gives me a headache,” Webb wrote. “How do I know you said what you said if I can't understand?”

Just Women's Sports reported Brooks' response: "You recognize grammar faults when your daughter has a 2.0 or below GPA. Stop acting petty, phony, and spiteful and take responsibility for your and your daughter's actions.”
